Excel tutorial on 4 ways to round in Excel. We’ll look at ROUND, ROUNDUP, ROUNDDOWN
It might seem odd that there are so many rounding functions but having them helps add flexibility to meet the needs of different projects. Here’s how these rounding functions differ:
1. What is the ROUND function in Excel?
The Excel ROUND function rounds numbers more like the way we learned in school – 5 or higher rounds up, 4 or lower rounds down. With the ROUND function, you can specify the number of digits you want to round the number to.
2. What is the ROUNDUP function in Excel?
The Excel ROUNDUP function ignores the traditional rules of rounding down if the number is less than a 4 and will always round up from zero.
3. What is the ROUNDDOWN function in Excel?
The Excel ROUNDDOWN function ignores the traditional rules of rounding up if the number is 5 or higher and will always round down.
4. What is the MROUND function in Excel?
The MROUND function rounds a number to the closest multiple of a number you specify. For example, if you use MROUND to round the number 12 to the nearest multiple of 5, the result would be 10.
