Excel tutorial on how to use Map Charts in Excel to create a map directly in your spreadsheet. You can create a map to show values and categories by geographic area – worldwide, by country or closer!

You can make 2 types of map charts using Excel:

1. either based on values (dollars, for example) or
2. category (an example would be product types)

A value type chart map will chart values on the geographic region in your data set. This is also an easy way to make a heat map in Excel!

A category type map chart will chart your list by location. This is for anything that is not numeric. In our example, we use zip codes to map the locations where our products were sold.
